Nick Frost’s Santa, brilliant and a bit arrogant, is a good match for the Doctor, and the elves are aptly identified as comic relief.
This year, we got a tangerine-loving hero Santa, Alien and Inception plot knock-offs, and a touching reunion. "Shona McCullough, Defender of the Universe!" It's certainly got a ring to it.It’s the annual tradition, and this year was no exception: the Doctor Who Christmas special. Her name isn't one of them because that goes without saying.
She showed the potential to be a brilliant full time Doctor Who companion and here's a list - or our very own Christmas itinerary, if you will - of 10 reasons why should take on the coveted role. In just one episode Shona showed that she was brave, resourceful, intuitive and that's not to mention her back catalogue of impressive dance moves which you'll probably agree left nothing to the imagination. Although the Doctor showed a particular liking to Ashley Carter (Natalie Gumede) in the festive episode, Shona was the underdog of the story and everyone knows how much the nation loves one of those. But just who could be about to step aboard the TARDIS to show 'em how it's done? There's no point speculating because fans have already met her and it will probably come as no surprise to hear that it's Shona McCullough from Last Christmas.
The task of adding a third party to the proceedings doesn't come without its fair share of risks but some would say it's just what the show needs in order to throw a spanner into the works, especially now that the Doctor and Clara are seemingly at their most comfortable together.
This year's Doctor Who Christmas Special confirmed that Clara Oswald will be staying in the TARDIS for Series 9 but, if the recent rumours are to be believed, she won't be the only companion joining the Doctor for his 2015 adventures.
